Introduction to CTEs
PostgresConf South Africa is dedicated to providing a harassment-free conference experience for everyone, regardless of gender, gender identity and expression, sexual orientation, disability, physical appearance, body size, race, age or religion. We do not tolerate harassment of conference participants in any form. Sexual language and imagery is not appropriate for any conference venue, including talks.
Conference participants violating these rules may be sanctioned or expelled from the conference without a refund at the discretion of the conference organisers. It is the sole discretion of the conference organisers if any action is considered to have violated this policy.
Harassment includes, but is not limited to:
Verbal comments that reinforce social structures of domination related to gender, gender identity and expression, sexual orientation, disability, physical appearance, body size, race, age, religion
Sexual images in public spaces
Deliberate intimidation, stalking, or following
Harassing photography or recording
Sustained disruption of talks or other events
Inappropriate physical contact
Unwelcome sexual attention
Advocating for, or encouraging, any of the above behaviour
Participants asked to stop any harassing behaviour are expected to comply immediately.
If a participant engages in harassing behaviour, conference organisers retain the right to take any actions to keep the conference a welcoming environment for all participants. This includes warning the offender or expulsion from the conference with no refund, and/or referral to appropriate authorities. If you are being harassed, notice that someone else is being harassed, or have any other concerns, please contact a member of conference staff immediately.
Conference organisers may take action to redress anything designed to, or with the clear impact of, disrupting the conference or making the environment hostile for any participants.
The conference organisers will be happy to help participants contact hotel/venue security or local law enforcement, provide escorts, or otherwise assist those experiencing harassment to feel safe for the duration of the conference. We value your attendance.
We expect participants to follow these rules at all conference venues and conference-related social activities.
Expenses of the PostgresConf South Africa conference are covered by the income from our sponsors and from the registration fees. We aim at keeping costs for both parties as low as possible and include special rates for students in order to enable as many interested people as possible to attend. Our budget is calculated targeting a zero result. PostgresConf South Africa is managed via the non-profit company, TechConf NPC in South Africa, with registration number 2018/233512/08. Any profits are utilised for the following year's conference.
