The proposal outlines the automation of backup management for Amazon Web Services (AWS) Relational Database Service (RDS) using Terraform, a popular Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tool. AWS RDS offers automated backup capabilities, but manual intervention, configuration, and monitoring are often required to ensure compliance with backup policies and optimize cost and performance. This project aims to streamline the backup process through Terraform by automating the creation, management, and monitoring of RDS backups, including the scheduling of daily snapshots, retention policies, and the management of backup windows. Terraform will enable declarative infrastructure management, allowing consistent and reproducible backup configurations across multiple RDS instances and environments. Additionally, the automation will reduce human error, enhance disaster recovery capabilities, and ensure compliance with business continuity requirements. The proposal also includes a detailed workflow for implementing, testing, and maintaining the automated backup infrastructure, ultimately improving operational efficiency, reliability, and security in cloud environments.
