Peter Eisentraut

2ndQuadrant

Peter has been a contributor to PostgreSQL development since 1999. He is a committer, core team member, and is involved in many aspects of the community.

He works at 2ndQuadrant, a global service and support provider for PostgreSQL.

This talk will take a closer look at the implementation of logical replication solutions for PostgreSQL: pglogical, BDR, and in-core logical replication in PostgreSQL 10. We will talk about the roles of logical decoding, replication slots, replication origins, commit timestamps, custom WAL records, and other pieces that make these systems work. We'll contrast these systems with trigger-based replication systems such as Slony and Londiste.

Attendees who are new to logical replication in PostgreSQL are encouraged to also see the talk "Logical Replication in PostgreSQL 10" for preparation.
