One of the largest Digital Industrial company uses a multi-platform Data Lake containing Greenplum and Hortonworks Hadoop data platforms, ingestion and transformation tool Talend, and multiple commercial off the shelf (Tableau, OBIEE) and home-grown applications to land standardized and report on financial data sourced from different ERPs across its multiple businesses. With BlueTalon, this company was able to implement a Data Democratization policy framework that allows end users to access the subset of data based on the business they belong to or their finance functional area through templated dynamic attribute based database, table, row filtering and column masking rules. Policies defined in BlueTalon were enforced identically across data platforms and applications that eliminated ~300 custom coded views in databases, joins with large security tables with 10m rows in middleware or duplication of logic in multiple applications.

Pratik Verma of Blue Talon will present a practitioner’s view of what led to the creation of the Data Democratization framework and key learnings based on experience implementing the framework.
