In this talk, we present results from performance testing comparing two types of NVMe storage – Intel Optane and NAND – found in a growing number of servers running open source databases. Utilizing the community lab resources provided by Packet and Intel, we ran pgbench to understand how the newest types of NVMe storage affect PostgreSQL performance. We will walk through the various results as well as implications to how you might choose storage technology for your next database servers.

Those interested in replicating or extending our results can run their own tests by making a request on https://www.acceleratewithoptane.com/.
